Diet Fit FAQs
This page covers common questions about ingredients in KYUNU chuka soba noodles and how they might fit into your diet.
Is KYUNU Chuka Soba keto friendly?
Yes, KYUNU can fit into a keto diet with some constraints due to the high protein formulation with fiber and resistant starch.
KYUNU has 50% fewer net carbs than traditional ramen or spaghetti. And unlike most low-carb noodles that sacrifice everything for the macro count, these actually taste like real noodles.
More importantly, net carbs aren't the whole story. KYUNU's resistant starch slows glucose absorption, which means you're avoiding the spikes that actually knock you out of ketosis — not just counting numbers. Learn more about how KYUNU affects glucose here.
If you're active and carb-cycling, one portion fits comfortably within a flexible keto approach. Each package contains enough for two portions, so managing your intake is easy.
But if you're strict keto with a hard 20g limit? KYUNU isn't your noodle — and we'd rather be honest about that than oversell it.
For everyone else eating with intention — more protein, fewer carbs, real food — KYUNU fits the way most people actually eat.
Can I eat KYUNU if I am pre-diabetic or diabetic?
Many of our customers are pre-diabetic or diabetic — and they've found KYUNU works well for them. But we're noodle makers, not doctors, so here's what we can honestly tell you about what's in the bowl.
Our noodles contain resistant starch and fiber — and resistant starch, as a category, has been widely studied for its role in how carbohydrates are digested. Here's the science we find compelling.
KYUNU also has 50% fewer net carbs than traditional ramen or spaghetti, and 30g of protein — both of which matter for blood sugar management.
That said, everyone's body responds differently, and if you're managing diabetes or pre-diabetes, your doctor or dietitian knows your situation in a way we never could. We'd encourage you to share the nutrition label with them — and if you do try KYUNU, a continuous glucose monitor can be a great way to see exactly how your body responds.
Are these noodles gluten free?
No — and that's by design.
Wheat is what gives KYUNU its signature springy bite and satisfying chew. It's the same reason authentic ramen noodles have always been made with wheat. We're not interested in compromising the texture to chase a trend.
If you have celiac disease or a serious gluten sensitivity, KYUNU isn't the right noodle for you. If you've noticed you feel better avoiding wheat, it may be worth exploring whether FODMAP sensitivity is the culprit — it's often mistaken for gluten intolerance.
Is KYUNU vegetarian? Vegan?
KYUNU is not vegan — every flavor is built on a noodle made with egg whites, and that's not changing; egg is part of what gives KYUNU its protein and bite. Vegetarian is a different story: Just the Noods, our plain unseasoned noodle, is vegetarian-friendly. The three seasoned flavors — Chicken & Black Garlic, Taiwanese Pork & Shrimp Danzai, and Thai Shrimp Tom Yum — all use meat or seafood in the seasoning packet, so those aren't vegetarian. If you're vegetarian, Just the Noods plus your own broth or sauce is the move.
Is KYUNU dairy-free? Nut-free? Soy-free?
| Flavor | Wheat/Gluten | Egg | Dairy | Soy | Nut | Shellfish |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chicken & Black Garlic | Yes | Yes | Yes (butter) | Yes | No | No |
| Taiwanese Pork & Shrimp Danzai | Yes | Yes | No | Yes | No | Yes (shrimp) |

Is KYUNU good for weight loss?
We're not going to sell you on KYUNU as a diet food — it isn't one, and we've never marketed it that way. What it does have going for it: 30g of protein and 15g of fiber per bag. Eating more protein and fiber keeps you satiated for longer, which helps with staying in a calorie deficit as part of a balanced diet. But the reason people stick with it long enough for that to matter isn't willpower — it's that it tastes like a noodle worth eating, so you don't need motivation to keep choosing it.
Is KYUNU good for muscle building / post-workout?
Functionally, yes — 30g of protein per bag, from egg and plant sources with all nine essential amino acids, lands right at the 25-30g per meal that research points to for maximizing muscle protein synthesis. It's not built to replace your protein shake — it's a real meal, so it works better as a post-workout dinner than a 15-minute recovery drink. If you're training and want actual food instead of just macros afterward, KYUNU gets you there.
Is KYUNU safe during pregnancy?
We're noodle makers, not doctors, so we're not going to tell you what's safe for your pregnancy — that's a conversation for your OB. What we can tell you: KYUNU's ingredients don't include anything on the standard pregnancy-avoid list like raw fish, unpasteurized dairy, or alcohol, and the FDA considers MSG safe in normal amounts during pregnancy. If you're expecting and want to work KYUNU into your rotation, run the ingredient list by your doctor first — same advice we'd give for any food, not just ours.
Can kids eat KYUNU?
Yes — and by all accounts, enthusiastically. Kids often request it by name for dinner, and thanks to 30g of protein and 15g of fiber, most are satisfied with just half the pouch.
